Week 2 Begins

The happiest man on earth would be able to use the Mirror of Erised like a normal mirror; that is, he would look into it and see himself exactly as he is.

This morning (Nov 21), in addition to his delicious cinnamon rolls, our favorite Bearded Baker served a vegan cinnamon crumble. Amanda loved the crumble and preferred it over the buns.

One of our favorite pastimes from our first week was watching The Crown. We’ve been enjoying Session 5 each night, along with a wee dram of Bruichladdich whisky and a “Winter Warmer” candle from Isle of Skye Candle Company. Lovely!

And speaking of The Crown Season 5, we toured The Royal Yacht Britannia today at its anchorage just outside Edinburgh. Some of the scenes were clearly filmed on the boat, which was pretty fun to see.

Here is the Royal Family standing at the same spot from the photo above (Andrew, the late Queen, Charles, Anne, Edward, & the late Duke of Edinburgh.

In this room have dined Presidents Eisenhower, Ford, Reagan, and Clinton, along with hundreds of other dignitaries.

Ah, look, there’s her majesty now!

After touring The Royal Yacht Britannia, we took the bus over to The Beacon (aka The Newhaven Lighthouse), which is from—shocker of all shockers—the movie Fire Saga. This is the scene where Lars and Sigrit are sitting on the breakwater when the boat blows up with all the Icelandic contestants on board. The scene was set in Reykjavik, but they actually filmed it here in Edinburgh since they were already filming scenes on Calton Hill, at the Ross Fountain, in front of the White Hart Inn, and driving up Victoria Street.

“The elves went too far”! -Sigrit

This is from inside the store we wrote about a few days ago that may have served as inspiration for J.K. for Ollivanders wand shop. It’s an unrepentant tourist trap now, which I may disagree with on many counts, but you cannot deny, the store’s got style!

I’ll end with this amazing photo Amanda took on Saturday of Edinburgh Castle rising above Princes Street Gardens.
