    With fewer time constraints and tourists, we aim to explore sites we have missed on past trips such as the British Museum, Houses of Parliament, Leadenhall Market, Thames Barrier, & more. We also plan to visit Richmond, home of Kew Gardens & Ted Lasso.

    JANUARY 15 - 29

    We follow Chaucer & Thomas Becket to the famed cathedral; visit the homes of Henry VIII & Katherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Darwin, Churchill, & Kipling; & explore Dover, The Hundred Acre Wood, Hastings, Rye, Brighton, & Portsmouth.

    JANUARY 30 - FEBRUARY 11

    From our thatched cottage with inglenook fireplace, we fan out over the Salisbury Plain to iconic prehistoric sites like Avebury, the White Horse, & the West Kent Long Barrow. We tour Wells Cathedral & Cheddar Gorge.

    We embrace winter on the western peninsula, including the Minack Theatre, the tidal island of St. Michael’s Mount, abandoned tin mines, remote beaches, and rugged coastlines.

    We visit Doc Martin at his surgery, seek King Arthur at Tintagel, and wander through ancient stone circles on the highlands of Dartmoor. We walk the famed cobbled streets of Covelly and visit the incredible fairytale forest in Wistman’s Wood.

    MARCH 5 - 24

    Bath is overflowing with things to do. We also follow Gavin & Stacey across the Prince of Wales bridge to Barry Island & Stella to Daddy Simpson’s Funeral Parlour. We remember Aberfan & hike the stunning Wye Valley.

    MARCH 25 - APRIL 15

    The Cotswolds are quintessential England: quaint villages, stones homes with thatched roofs, castles, manors, & gardens—all set in the stunning countryside. And of course there’s Shakespeare’s home town.

    APRIL 16 - MAY 5

    We exit the UK to reset our visa, taking a ferry to Dublin. We travel on to Limerick, the Cliffs of Moher, the scenic Ring of Kerry, kiss the Blarney Stone, visit Waterford Crystal, & take in the stunning Wicklow Mountains—with a Sláinte! over a Guinness or a Murphy’s with the fairies at Alfea.

    MAY 6 - 11

    Yes, that is really its name, and it is every bit as stunning as it looks. We summit Snowdon Peak (Steve on foot & Amanda by tram), feel sheer power at the mach loop, and marvel at Portmeiron Village & Bodnant Garden.

    UK’s original national park encompasses the stunning Dovedale & Hope Valley regions, and also includes unforgettable properties such as Haddon Hall, Chatsworth House, Calke Abbey & Kedleston Hall.

    From knife blade ridgelines, to crystal clear lakes, to verdant quilted fields—it is easy to see what captivated William Wordsworth, Beatrix Potter, & Alfred Wainwright. We survey Hadrian’s Wall before crossing into the Scottish Lowlands.

    JUNE 18 - 22

    We celebrate young love in Gretna Green and the amazing Robert Burns & J M Barrie in Dumfries. We cross ancient Brig o’ Doon before arriving in hip Glasgow, where architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh, street artist Smug, & a Victorian-era necropolis all fuse.

  • Kintyre, Islay, & Mull, Scotland

    JUNE 23 - 27

    On our way to the Western Isles, we visit Inveraray Castle and spend the night at Stonefield Castle. A ferry takes us to the famed Isle of Islay to enjoy a wee dram at the Bruichladdich, Laphroaig, & Ardbeg distilleries. Perhaps we’ll run into Jim McEwan at Ardnahoe. Then it’s on to Oban.

    JUNE 28 - JULY 3

    Steve summits Ben Nevis (UK’s highest peak) before boarding The Jacobite train, looking for a flying Ford Anglia over the Glenfinnan Viaduct & Dumbledore’s grave at Loch Eilt. Nearby Loch Morar inspired the loch at Hogwarts. Then it’s on to the awe-inspiring deep valley and towering mountains of Glen Coe. Hagrid’s hut overlooks the Clachaig Inn where we bask in the legendary atmosphere for several nights.

  • Stirling & Dunfirmline, Scotland

    JULY 4 - 13

    In Stirling the National Wallace Monument overlooks the site of the 1297 Battle of Stirling Bridge, where William Wallace defeated the English. Dunfirmline is base for visits to many sites used for Outlander, including Blackness Castle, Lallybroch, & Sandringham’s residence.

  • Perth & Balmoral, Scotland

    JULY 14 - 17

    We head to the Highlands, visiting the stunning Hermitage near Perth & and the 2,000-year-old Fortingall Yew. We visit the late Queen’s beloved Balmoral Castle. From here, Steve plans to hike the 19-mile Lairig Ghru, while Amanda drives around to welcome him to Aviemore.

    JULY 18 - 20

    We stay in a converted old convent while exploring the mysterious environs of Loch Ness. From the commanding shoreside vantage of the 12th Century Urquhart Castle we look for the elusive Nessie.

    JULY 21 - AUGUST 2

    We pay homage at the Culloden battlefield before heading to the breathtaking Isle of Skye. We cross by ferry to the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides to walk among the extraordinary cross-shaped Calanais Standing Stones, which predate Stonehenge.

    AUGUST 3 - 11

    From the northern tip of mainland Scotland we set sail, passing the Old Man of Hoy, before landing on Orkney Island where Skara Brae awaits. A longer ferry takes us to remote Shetland: home of spectacular scenery & wildlife, Bronze Age settlements, & DI Perez.

    AUGUST 12 - 17

    An overnight ferry from Lerwick delivers us to Aberdeen where we explore the many Speyside distilleries, countless castles, the Stone of Scone, the early 15th century Old Course golf course at St. Andrews, & more Outlander sites.

    AUGUST 18 - 22

    We return to Edinburgh to enjoy the spectacular Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. August also brings the Edinburgh Art, International, & Book Festivals.

    In the northeast of England, we visit the Alnwick Poison Garden, search for DCI Vera Stanhope’s Land Rover on Holy Island, and take time for reflection at Durham Cathedral, what Bill Bryson called “The best cathedral on Planet Earth.”

    AUGUST 27 - SEPTEMBER 9

    The York Moors reveal impressive ruins of once powerful monasteries, priories, & abbeys. York Minster is one of the world’s most magnificent cathedrals. We walk through the leaning timber-framed buildings of the Shambles & step inside the worlds of HP at Goathland Station, James Harriott in Thirsk, & the Brontë family in Haworth.

    SEPTEMBER 10 - 23

    Our trip is nearing its end but not before visiting Richard III’s burial site, Mr. Collin’s vicarage, Bletchley & Grantchester. We revel in the many celebrated buildings of the University of Cambridge, along with its HP legacy.

    SEPTEMBER 24 - OCTOBER 14

    The incomparable Blenheim Palace calls, as does the Hertford Bridge in Oxford. We visit the college & cathedral at Christ Church, along with one of Alexander Lemtov’s top five favorite homes at Knebworth House.

    We bid farewell to the UK and a final thank you for the grand adventure. We return home to our beloved family, buoyed by a lifetime of brilliant memories!
